CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Dale Stauffer, age 88, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died on Sunday, December 14, 2008, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Dale will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with Pastor Gary Van Wert, officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Greene. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City.

Dale John Stauffer was born on November 14, 1920, in Butler County, Iowa, the son of John and Gesina (Menken) Stauffer. He graduated from the Allison High School in 1937.

On June 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Alice Litterer. They farmed all their lives in the Allison, Greene, Nashua and Charles City areas. Alice died on Jan. 16, 1997.

Dale had a dehorning business for many years that served farmers in the surrounding area. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church where he had served on several of the church boards, Farm Bureau, Floyd County Mutual, and Floyd County Soil Conservation. Dale had also served as a 4-H leader. He always enjoyed the family fishing trips to Canada. Dale always took a special interest in children of all ages and will be remembered for helping them in whatever way he could.

Living family members include two daughters, Lin (Doug) Sinclair and Vicky (Larry) Sonne, both of Charles City; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Lois Stauffer, of Allison; a brother, Lyle (Gladys) Stauffer, of Greene; a brother-in-law, Ken (Darlene) Litterer of Maquoketa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a son, Roger Stauffer; and a sister, Margaret Stauffer.
