Barbara Jean Wicklund Soifer was born September 8, 1946, at Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Ingmund and Norine (Shinnick) Wicklund. She received her Bachelors Degree and Masters of Business Administration from Loyola University in Chicago.

On October 16, 1971, she was united in marriage to Sam Soifer at Chicago. From 1965 to 1978 Barb was the Director of Accounting at the McDonald’s Corporation in Oak Brook, llinois. Currently she is the co-owner of eight McDonald’s restaurants, the first being built in Charles City in 1978. Barb was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she had served on the parish council and as treasurer of the Immaculate Conception School Board.

She was very civic minded having served on the Charles City City Council for 12 years serving as the finance chair, as treasurer of the Charles City Chamber of Commerce, past president of the local Rotary Club, had served as treasurer of the YMCA and a charter member and treasurer of the Teen Center. The McDonald’s organization was extremely important to Barb where she had served as treasurer of three McDonald’s Advertising Co-ops, three chapters of the Ronald McDonald House Charities and three Ronald McDonald Houses located in Iowa City, Des Moines and Rochester, Minnesota. Barb always enjoyed playing cards, board games and video games. She will always be remembered as a conversationalist who loved to tell stories.

Living family members include her husband, Sam of Charles City; 2 sons, Scott Soifer of Charles City and Shawn (Lacey) Soifer of Jesup; a daughter, Regina Soifer of Charles City; a step son, Stuart (Karen) Soifer of Joliet, Illinois and a step daughter Alissa (Brian) Crespo of Rockledge, Florida; 3 grandchildren; and 2 expectant grandchildren; 2 brothers, John (Sharon) Wicklund of Romeoville, Illinois, and Bill (Pat) Wicklund of Naperville, Illinois; and a sister, Jo Ann (Dave) Robinson of Font Hill, Ontario, Canada.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, James Raymond Wicklund; and an infant sister, Mary Beth Wicklund.
