CHARLES CITY — Fred Castle, 66, of Charles City died Friday (May 27, 2005) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services for Fred Castle will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Ruth Yeaton, of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue Wednesday one hour prior to the service.

Fred Castle, age 66, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Friday, May 27, 2005, at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Fred Eugene Castle, Sr. was born August 5, 1938, at Rockford, Floyd county, Iowa, the son of Vern and Marion (Trimble) Castle. He received his education at the school in Rockford.

On November 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Ilona Essman at Charles City. During his working career Fred farmed, worked at the Oliver/White Farm Corporation for 14 years, was proprietor of Fred’s Deep Rock and the Friendly Inn at Floyd, and also did tiling for 20 years. Fred was a member of the Double C Saddle Club for many years, the Moose Lodge and served as a volunteer fireman at Floyd for many years.

An important part of Fred's life was his music. He played in the Cedar Valley Ramblers, Melody Makers and Country Blue Boy’s. Fred enjoyed playing cards, camping and attending and playing at various Blue Grass Festivals.

Living family members include three children, June (Doug) Temple of Charles City, Fred (Terri) Castle, Jr. of Charles City and Kristy (Jim) Shatek of New Hampton; nine grandchildren, Laurie, Shannon and Matthew Temple, Fred Eugene Castle III, April (Josh) Hovenga, Jamie (Josh) Dummer, and Brian, Jaydon and Madison Shatek; three great grandchildren; a brother, Vern "Bud" (Jeanne) Castle, Jr. of Waterloo; and a sister, JaneAnn (Ed) Nealand of Coeur d'Alene, ID.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 1990; and a sister, Belva Cerwinske.
