Anna Mae Cross Frein was born October 17, 1932, at Charles City, the daughter of Charles and Margaret (Monroe) Cross. She received her education from the Charles City High School.

On November 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Ed Frein at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Anna Mae worked for 15 years at Comprehensive Systems. She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Jude Circle and Rosary Society.

For 38 years she was part of the same coffee and card group. Her favorite hobbies included shopping and going to movies. Anna Mae always looked forward to spending time with her family.

Living family members include her husband, Ed Frein of Charles City; three children, Jean (Steve) Steinkamp of Boone, Jill (“Howie”) Knoll of Del Rio, TX, and Jay (Tracy) Frein of Charles City; eight grandchildren, Paul and Neil Reese, Teresa Steinkamp, Cristina Norton, Eve Knoll, and Joshua, Jeremy and Jacob Frein; three great grandchildren; two brothers, Allen (Diane) Cross of Charles City, and Jerry (Mary) Cross of Forest City; a sister, Lavon (Earl) Varner of Rock Falls; and a sister-in-law, Pat Cross of Charles City.

Her parents and a brother, Aldon Cross, preceded her in death.
