Anna Bjelica, 85, of Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, died Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

The Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Anna Bacher Bjelica was born February 19, 1922, at Hundham, Germany, the daughter of Johann and Gertraude Bacher.

In 1948 she was united in marriage to Marko Bjelica in Munich, Germany. With two small children in tow, Anna and Marko came to America where they hoped for the opportunity to farm.

Anna supported her husband and family by living modestly on the farm. She was known for her love of the Catholic faith. Those who visited her home experienced German hospitality. Anna was very generous by sharing her favorite raisin bread.

She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Lay Carmelites, Rosary Society, Saint Theresa Circle, Chat/A/Bit club and the Lady’s German Club of Charles City. Her interests included baking, gardening, traveling to Germany to see family, playing 500 with friends and family, dancing with Marko, attending daily Mass, and personal prayer of the Rosary for family members.

Living family members include three sons, Nicholas Bjelica of Charles City, Paul (Margaret) Bjelica of Kansas City, Mo. and Thomas (Roxann) Bjelica of Charles City; a son-in-law, Steven Exline of Charles City; 10 grandchildren, Michelle, Susan, Heidi, Kristina, Adam, Alex, Elizabeth, Hanna, Evan and Angelina; three great-grandchildren, Sirus, Mitra and Armon; one brother, Andel (Cathi) Bacher of Miesbach, Germany; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marko on January 19, 1991; one son, Peter Bjelica on September 12, 2001; one daughter, Mary Ann Exline on January 13, 1997; a sister, Gertraude Weiland; and two brothers, Josef and Hans Bacher.
