Jane Gustava Hammer was born October 4, 1932 in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, to Oscar and Mildred (Knowlton) Hammer. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1950, and worked for several years as a real estate broker and salesperson. She was united in marriage to Douglas Hobert on June 26, 1952. The couple later divorced.

Jane enjoyed shopping, sewing, and travel by car. She loved to read, listen to music on the radio, and was a World War II history buff. She especially loved animals and would donate her time to the Cedar Bend Humane Society.

Living family members include her two daughters, Kim (Bob) Jones, Kirkland, Washington, and Jackie (Robert) Bennett, Evansdale; four grandchildren, Shannon, Alan, and Tara Jones and Kizzy Taylor; two great grandchildren, Zach and Artavious; two brothers, Robert (Deniece) Hammer of Charles City, and Oscar G. (Roberta) Hammer of Denver, Colorado; and one sister, Sally (Richard) Lehman of Aurora, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one daughter, Nancy Jane Hobert.
