Eva Merle Smiley Scheidecker was born April 4, 1916 near Osage, Minnesota, the daughter of Ellsworth James and Vina Mae (Estabrooks) Smiley. When she was two they moved to Staples, Minnesota where she grew up. At an early age she came to know the Lord as her Savior. Eva graduated from Staples High School in 1935, received her nurses training at Minneapolis, Minnesota and did private nursing for several years.

On November 6, 1941, she was united in marriage to William “Bill” Scheidecker at Minneapolis. They moved to Brownsville, Texas where he was stationed in the Army. Upon Bill’s discharge they farmed near Nashua, moved to a farm near Greene for 5 years and then in March of 1955 purchased a farm east of Greene. Here they raised their family of six children.

She was in fellowship with the Charles City Assembly. Eva will always be remembered as a devoted mother who provided for her family in every way possible, always putting their needs first. Fond memories center on her love and concern, singing hymns as she worked, cooking, gardening, canning, sewing and always placing family first.

Living family members include three daughters and their husbands, Mary and Allan Whiteside of Charles City, Dorothy and David Kasper of Brookville, Pennsylvania, and Celia and Brian Prigge of St. Cloud, Minnesota; and three sons and their wives, William and Martha Scheidecker of Hampton, Robert and Pauline Scheidecker of Clarksville, and James and Jennifer Scheidecker of Anoka, Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and two sisters, Clarabelle Canner of Clearwater, Florida, and Twylla and her husband John Grover of Portland, Oregon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bill in 1975; a brother George Smiley; and two sisters, Gladys Ducommun and Francis Grant.

CHARLES CITY — Eva Scheidecker, 88, of Charles City, entered into the presence of her Lord on Friday, (Jan. 7, 2005) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

Funeral services for Eva Scheidecker will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Mr. Steve Faulkner will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Visitation will continue at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
