CHARLES CITY — Ivan Mincks, 85, of Charles City, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2005) at Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Dennis Niezwaag officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, with a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St. in Charles City, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Ivan LaVerne Mincks was born October 14, 1919, at Ft. Atkinson, Iowa, the son of Lycurgus and Arabella (Perkins) Mincks. He graduated from the Calmar High School. Ivan served in the United States Navy during World War II.

On October 16, 1940, he was united in marriage to Vida Jacobson at Decorah. Vida died on April 15, 1984. Ivan then married Mary Klampe on August 11, 1984. Mary died on January 2, 2004.

During his working career he was an ice man for Ray Waggoner, then a security guard at the Oliver Corporation and Sara Lee. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and the American Legion where he had served as commander.

His hobbies included hunting, fishing and woodworking. Ivan also worked with cross stitch and will be remembered for all of the crosses that he made and gave away.

Living family members include four children; Mike Mincks of Webster City, Lanny (Gloria) Mincks of Charles City, Jay Mincks of Charles City and Linda (Ed) Logan of Charles City; five grandchildren, Leo Mincks, Marie Mincks, Misty Tucker, Daniel Logan and Patrick Logan; four great grandchildren; six step daughters; and two brothers, Carrol Mincks of Calmar and Cecil Mincks of Iowa City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Brian Logan and Malinda Mincks; seven brothers and a sister.
