SHELBYVILLE, ILLINOIS — Robert C. Sylvester, age 90, of Shelbyville, Illinois, died on Saturday, October 11, 2008, in Shelbyville Manor.
Memorial graveside services will be held on Friday, November 7, 2008 in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Grote officiating and Masonic rites by Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Shelbyville.
Mr. Sylvester was born on July 10, 1918, in Charles City, Floyd county, Iowa, the son of August Carl and Alta Mae Thompson Sylvester. He was a graduate of Charles City High School in the Class of 1936 and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Bob worked for the Oliver Corporation in Shelbyville for over 29 years and then was an agent for the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville. He was a lifetime member of Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 53 of Shelbyville and an emeritus member of the Saxa Rubra Conclave of Knights of the Red Cross of Constantine in Champaign, Illinois.
He married Marjorie Marie Strohl on July 23, 1950 in Marion, Illinois.
Surviving are his wife, Marge; son, Phillip Keith Sylvester of Marion, Illinois; daughters, Kathy Lantz and husband Scott and Barb Holley and husband Jim all of Shelbyville; brother, Keith Sylvester and wife Marietta of Charles City; brother-in-law, Phillip Strohl and wife Marjorie of Shelbyville; grandchildren Jeffrey C. McClain and wife Michele of Fredericksburg, Va., Sarah E. Dicks of Raleigh, N.C., Megan M. Lantz of Chicago, Illinois, Laurie Groves and husband Justin of Benton, Illinois, Suzanne Clark and husband Todd of Marion, Illinois, Matthew D. Holley of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Mark A. Holley of Champaign, Illinois; and great grandchildren Jacob McClain, Andrew Clark, Ava and Ella Groves and Elijah and Adam Millard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by a daughter, Patti Elizabeth; and by a great-grandson, Joshua Keith Clark.
