Beverly Rasmussen, age 75, of Charles City, died on Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City after battling pancreatic cancer for over two years.

Funeral services for Beverly will be held on Saturday at the Trinity United Methodist Church. Pastor Gary Van Wert will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Beverly Lou Waller Rasmussen was born May 27, 1933, at Clear Lake, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa, the daughter of Ray and Millie (Martin) Waller. She graduated from the Mason City High School, mason City, Iowa in 1951, received her Teaching Certificate from Mason City Junior College and earned her B.A. in Elementary Education from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls.

On August 16, 1953 she was united in marriage to Fred “Gene” Rasmussen at Mason City, Cerro Gordo county, Iowa. They lived in Charles City all of their married lives, and were active in the community. Beverly first taught school in Floyd and then at Charles City, retiring in 1999 after 45 years. Her love of teaching was evident in her caring for each and every student and over the years many kept in contact with her. Beverly was nominated by her students to receive the Golden Apple Award in 1998.

She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles City Education Association, National Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, ADK, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, cake decorating, swimming, and playing the piano.

She is survived by her husband, Gene Rasmussen of Charles City; by three children: Ken (Kimberly) Rasmussen of Mason City, Kim (Russ) Rosenbaum of Rock Falls, and Kay (Tony) Schmalen of Clear Lake; by five grandchildren: Jacob Rasmussen, Eric and Amy Rosenbaum and Ryan and Bryce Schmalen; by two brothers, Donald (Clarice) Waller of Jacksonville, Florida, and Ray (Sue) Waller of Omaha, Nebraska; and by a sister, Pat (Tom) Williams of Hemet, California.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by two brothers, (infant) Michael Waller and Jerry Waller.
