Phineas Calcord Fluent, 99, believed to be Charles City's oldest resident, died at 6 p. m. yesterday in a Mason City Hospital where he was admitted earlier yesterday. He was moved to Mason City from the Cedar Valley hospital where he had been a patient a few days.

Mr. Fluent was a retired blacksmith. He operated a shop for many years where the Frudden Lumber Co. is now located.

Funeral services in charge of Grossman's Funeral Home are incomplete.

Mr. Fluent was born April 19, 1853, in Bath, Stueben County, New York, the son of Amos and Mathilda Butler Fluent. He was the last of nine children. He came to Iowa in 1862 and lived with his family on a farm two miles from Floyd. He married Hattie E. Wallace Dec. 15, 1879. She died July 19, 1932.

Mr. Fluent a staunch republican, voted for Eisenhower in the election two weeks ago. He had voted a straight republican ticket all his life.

Survivors include an only daughter, Mrs. Baldwin F. Consler of McLean, Va., and one granddaughter, Mrs. E. E. Duffy, and one great granddaughter, Frances Anne Duffy, all of McLean.

During the past few years Mr. Fluent made his home with Mr. and Mrs. George Veigel, 808 N. Jackson St.
