ACCIDENTS MARK EVENTFUL DAY IN ROCKFORD

At about 2 o’clock Arthur Hain fired a .38 caliber bullet into his right temple in the office waiting room of Doctor Knight, who was out for the afternoon.

CONDUCT FUNERALS FOR THREE PERSONS WHO DIED VIOLENT DEATHS HERE.

No Inquest:
Coroner Charles Snyder, Charles City, decided no inquest would be held in the death, pronouncing Hain’s as self-inflicted.

Shortly before noon Hain had his hair cut in the Elmer Smith barber shop. Then he went to the Braga café where he purchased a small glass of beer, a package of peanuts, and a package of cigarettes. Shortly before 2 p.m. he walked into Dr. Knight’s waiting room. Brooding over marital troubles is believe to have been the cause of his rash act.

His body lay directly across the door leading to the waiting room, his hat and coat were on the chair.

His body was discovered by Marian and Harriet Hubbard, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Hubbard who had gone to the building to clean it, a practice that they had followed on Thursday afternoons when Dr. Knight was out.

Mr. Hain had been making his home with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Crowell, who left a short time ago for Cedar Rapids to spend the winter. He then stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Jay Squier. Mrs. Crowell and Mrs. Squier are his sisters.
