**Charles Squier and Mary Bruce married and settled in Floyd County Iowa

Tipton, Iowa 1855

Friend Mary, I east me self to write you know that I am a live and that’s all I have been sick so that I have been a bed ? more than half for two weeks the time you can say to your father that I do not think that I sahl be able that he beter wate until he hears from me I will write as soon as I am able. I have been sick so much that I am all mo?st discouraged you better believe I should like to see you very much I have not had any letter from home cant say and do not expect to again I did not think that Melisa would stay to ?Fleming? I came to the conclusion that the young folks are awful stdy you said that you had a nice time the fourth I had and awful ? time painting and about five? old maids to stick their nose I have some pretty strong ? of leaving for a Vermont. I think I shal ate a little longer but I would not care if I was there I cannot write more nothing else to any satisfaction do no more? Good by to M E Bruce from C H Squier
