Camden June 5, 1855
Absent Friend
With pleasure I attempt answering your much welcomed letter I received your letter with much pleasure and was happy ti find that you had not forgotten your old friend there has been a great change since I say you last winter I little thought that youwas a going away where perhaps we may never meet again in this wourld but it is quite a consolation to think that we have pen and paper that we may hear from each other you can’t emagon what pleasure it was to hear form you and your people and that you arrived safe and was all well and happy our people are in general health now Francis has been quite sick this spring and is now better the neighbors are all well as usual uncle Job’s? people are all stirring about. Fanny has moved down in Baskfields little house where bill can go every night and he attends to it regular. I went to greenwich a short time after you was at our house and spent two weeks and enjoyed myself very much. I made my new sister a visit and I cant tell you how much I think of her and the rest of her family ?Ira? is in greenwich and Gardner lives where he did last summer. Gardner and David was up last Sunday and Gardner sends his love to you and sayes that he shall surely write Frank sayes he is coming out there one of these days he is now talking of going a pedeling bookks we have herd from Andrew Harrington people they send back good news how they go there safe and had no bad luck on their jurney Mr. Harrington writes that they are all well suited she sayes they have drawn their land they have land out a village and Mr. Herrington has drawn lot number 12 and Ebenezer has drawn lot number 21. Ransom lot number 1. They have built a house on one of the lots and an Indian doctor is a coming to cure Louisa and Ephraim has gon on to Texas. They haven’t seen Andrew or Susan but still Mrs. Harrington says that if she could have her mother with her she should be perfectly happy and also we have hurd from Mr. ? people they had excellent good luck they have bought them a farm in Wisconsin and Mary Ann is a teaching school. Orse has gone to Wisconsin to Franklin you may think we haven’t any people in Camden but we have When I think of all those that I have been with ever since I was a child you had better believe I feel a little touch of the western fever. There has been no weddings except of Nancy Binningers and ?Guy? in our place Guy was married to Miss Miller she lives up north there hasent’ been any deaths in our place that I think of. I suppose that you have herd of your Grandfathers death and that he was drownded. I must bring my letter to a close as Francis is a going to the store and we can have a chance to send it down. Elizabeth has given me the privelege of writing a few words. I was happy to hear from your family. You went away unexpected to me I think I should come and seen you if I had known you had been ?? so soon. My health is very poor and never expect to be well again in this world we have been talkin of moving west if we could get ready right. if there is any good place for us it is the hardest times I ever see in Camden.
