Woodward-Clay
One of the nicest social events of the season took place last Saturday evening in the wedding of Miss Betty Clay to Mr. Clell Woodward, the scene being laid at the Henry Clay home just over the line in Floyd County near Orchard.
Rev. H.O. Allen was the officiating pastor, Rev. Mack also being present and offering prayer. The ceremony was witnessed by about fifty guests all of them relatives or near friends of the contracting parties. About eighty had been invited but the decidedly inclement weather interfered.
The house was beautifully decorated with autumn leaves and the ceremony was carried out very prettily.
Miss Marjorie Clay sang a beautiful solo accompanied by Mrs. John Hart of Charles City who also beautifully rendered the wedding march. Light refreshments were served the company.
The newly wedded young people are from two of the best homes in the country and are prominent socially. The bride is a young woman of finish and education, a practical minded lady whom her many friends believe is destined to prove a splendid homemaker. The groom is a son of Mr. and Mrs. B.S. Woodward of East Lincoln Township. He is a graduate of Osage high school making excellent records in his school work. He also has a widespread reputation as an athlete and is in every way excellently equipped to enter upon the stern duties of life.
The couple will make their home on the farm of the bride’s father in Floyd County.
Sincerest congratulations to the happy pair.
