George Dunkelberg

George H. Dunkelberg, born October 2, 1853, in Niagara County, New York of Jeremiah and Matilda (Shook) Dunkelberg, was the oldest son of a family of 12. He emmigrated with his parents to Olge County, Illinois, in 1867, and there finished schooling in Rochelle, where he taught for five years. He married Mary E. Hubbard in 1882 and shortly thereafter moved to Rockford where he took up farming. He became a successful farmer and stock raiser, making a specialty of breeding Shorthorn cattle and building up a 540 acre farm.

Mr. Dunkelberg's first wife left him six children - Alta (who married David Mitchell), Ray, Arthur, Floyd, Wilbur and Irene. Mrs. Dunkelberg died February 2, 1906 and George subsequently married Minnie Gale. Finally Mr. Dunkelbeg served a term in the Iowa legislature in 1916.
