Iowa Postal Card, 18 December 1902.
Monday morning people were astonished to learn of the death of Mrs. David E. Fussell, whose illness lasted only from nine o'clock Sunday evening to five Monday morning. Heart trouble is said to have been the cause.
Her maiden name was Rachel Jennings, and she was born in Perry county, Ohio, Feb. 29, 1828, being the third in a family of fourteen children. She was married March 6, 1846, to David E. Fussell. They came to Iowa that year, and lived in this county since 1849. Mr. Fussel died March 4, 1882, at their home in Fayette, where she has since resided.
She was the mother of twelve children, six sons and six daughters, all living to maturity except one. There are seven now living - five sons and two daughters, all of whom were present at the funeral except two sons in California.
She, with her husband, joined the United Brethren church in 1860, and remained members until death. She was a faithful wife and mother and is sincerely mourned by those who survive her.
The funeral was held at the house Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Cattermole officiating.
