Elgin Echo, Thursday, 23 April 1896. In the Clermont column.
About 11 o'clock Friday Mr. Appleman discovered the remains of Ferdinand Reuf in the river near the deep hole where so many have been drowned. Mr. Reuf left home the Sunday night previous and nothing had been seen of him after. The river had been dragged and searching parties had been out, but up to this time their search had been fruitless. Mr. Reuf was a man of about -- (looks like 60 or 80 years old) years of age and had been a resident of this village for the past 40 years. He had always born the reputation of a good, honest citizen and his death is a sad one to all. He had twice been confined in the Independence Hospital for insane and there was talk of his being placed there again.
Postville Graphic, Thursday, April 30th 1896. In the Clermont column.
Mrs. Wright is visiting her mother Mrs. F. Reuf, having been called home by the distressing circumstances connected with the death of her father.
