CONTRIBUTOR: Not related but the Huffmans were friends of my parents from the Rossville/Waterville, Iowa areaCoila Virginia Huffman,age 99, of Des Moines, Iowa and formerly of Oelwein, Iowa died on Monday evening October 7, 2024 at the BRIDGES in Ankeny, Iowa. Coila was born June 17, 1925 in Waterville, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel and Betsy (Kolsrud) Glynn. In 1943 she graduated from the Waterville High School where she excelled in 6 on 6 girls' basketball and attended Bayless Business College in Dubuque, Iowa for two years. On February 13, 1945 she was united in marriage to Cletus Cleo Huffman at the Cherry Mound St. Pius Catholic Church in rural Allamakee County, Iowa. Coila worked at the Sears Catalogue Store for five years, as the Water Account Clerk for the City of
Oelwein for 25 years, and was the Secretary of the Oelwein Airport Commission. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein where she was the church organist for many years. She was active in her community serving as the treasurer of the Sacred Heart Rosary Society, volunteered at the Knights of Columbus Hall for voting polls at election time, Mercy Living Plus, Hospital Gift Shop, and Oelwein Care Center. In 2015 she moved to Des Moines, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Laurie Ann Huffman; son Thomas Paul Huffman and brother Raymond Glynn.
She is survived by her son Tony (Staci) Huffman of Altoona, Iowa; 6 grandchildren: Nicole (Scott) Watters of Forest Lake, Minnesota, Christopher (Cheryl) Huffman, also of Forest Lake, Gabrielle (Todd) Rutherford of Newton, Iowa; Ethan (Brooke) Huffman of Bondurant, Iowa, Haley and Hanna Long of Altoona, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Mikayla Watters, Madison Watters, Ryan Watters, Connor Lawson, Huxley Huffman, Harlow Huffman, Amari Williams, Zaire Williams, Lawson Rutherford, Cal Rutherford, and Ellington Rutherford; 2 gt.gt. grandchildren; Aria Gustafson, and Noah Huffman.
Funeral services were held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein and a private family graveside service was to be held at a later date.
