Mrs. CLARENCE (Selma Friederich) Lerch Meisner HOFER 1905-1987

Selma Hofer

Funeral services for Selma Hofer were held February 2 at Highland Lutheran Church. Elkader. Rev. Ernest T. Thompson officiated at the 2 p.m. service. Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader was in charge of arrangements.

She died January 29, 1987 at Central Community Hospital, Elkader. Interment was in Highland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Elkader, Iowa.

Selma Esther, daughter of Gottlieb and Adeline (Butikofer) Friederich, was born December 11, 1905 near Elgin, Iowa. She attended Clayton County schools.

On January 14, 1926 she married Ernest Lerch. They farmed in Marion Township until his death in 1940. She married Harold Meisner on September 13, 1941 in Wisconsin. They lived and farmed in Marion Township until Harold's death in 1968. She married Clarence Hofer at Highland Lutheran Church August 2, 1969. They resided in her present rural Elkader home. He also preceded her in death in 1976.

Selma was employed at Central Community Hospital in Elkader for 20 years. She was a long time member of Highland Lutheran Church.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mervin (Elva Mae) Larson, Postville and Mrs. Eldon (Dorothy Ann) Shaw, Edgewood; 5 sons, Lawrence Lerch, Elkader, George Lerch, El Reno, OK; Lyle Meisner, Volga; Ivan Meisner, Farmersburg and Glen Meisner, Elkader; a step-daughter, Anna Johnson, West Union; 24 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, a brother, William Friederich of Elgin, a sister, Mrs. Ernie (Esther) Bruellman, Frost, MN and numerous members of the Hofer family.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by a grandson Randy Meisner in 1973 and two brothers, Arthur and Lawrence Friederich.
