Myrtle Osmundson

Funeral services for Myrtle Osmundson were held Thursday, August 4, 2005, at 11:00 a.m., in the Bethany Lutheran Church, rural, Ossian, Iowa. The Reverend Ryan Nilsen officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery. Casket Bearers were: Grandchildren, Randy Molokken, LaRita Pritchard, Denise Osmundson, Dawn Bayarena, Bryan Wilson, Angie Dark, Andrea Lensing, McKenzie Stockman, Darin Osmundson, Melissa Davis.

Myrtle Gladys Osmundson was born August 17, 1912, near Elgin, Iowa, to Adolph Ruroden and Randene (Odegard) Ruroden. She passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005, in Palmer Lutheran Health Center, West Union, Iowa, at the age of 92 years.

She was confirmed in the Highland Lutheran Church at Elkader, Iowa. Myrtle attended several of the rural schools in the Elgin area.

Myrtle was married to Nanfred Osmundson on September 25, 1929, at West Union, Iowa. To this union nine children were born, Lyla, Norman, Delores, Gaylord, Eleanor, Geneva, Kenneth, Diane, and Ardith. The family farmed in the West Union area from 1929 to 1965, when they moved to rural Postville. Myrtle worked in the Dietary Department of the Postville Hospital. They moved to West Union in 1970, where Myrtle worked at the Town House Cafe from 1970 to 1996. She enjoyed and deeply loved her family.

Surviving are her children, Lyla (Art) Molokken, Clermont, Norman (Kathy) Osmundson, Marion, IA, Gaylord (Barb) Osmundson, Cedar Rapids, IA, son-in-law, Mike Wilson, Edmund, OK, daughter, Geneva Geeding, Wichita, KS, Diane (Dave) Lensing, Postville, and Ardith Stockman, Decorah, IA, and her special friend, Ron Ramsey.

Also surviving are ten grandchildren, LaRita Pritchard and special friend, Carl Hannon, Randy Molokken, Denise Osmundson and fiance, Jim Walker, Dawn (Paul) Bayarena, Darin Osumundson, Bryan (Ginny) Wilson, Angie (Mike) Dark, Melissa (Aaron) Davis, Andrea Lensing, McKenzie Stockman; five great grandchildren, Christy Pritchard, Chad Pritchard, Kyle Pritchard, Aiden Davis, Ian Bayarena; and one great great grandchild, MiKayla Johnson, a sister, Thelma (Harold) Patrick, Hawkeye, IA, three sisters-in-law, Stella Oyloe, West Union, Florence Osmundson, Volga, IA, and Irene Ruroden, Monona, IA.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Nanfred, two daughters, Delores Myrtle, who died in infancy, Eleanor Ruth Wilson, one son, Kenneth Lee, one granddaughter, Julie Ann Molokken, one great grandson, Kendal Pritchard, six brothers, Tillman, who died in infancy, Merlin, Clarence, Alvin, Maynard, and Kenneth, and two sisters, Violet Barker, and Rennita Larson, and her parents.

Myrtle has been a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church since it's beginning. She was a member of the String Band for many years, the ladies circle, taught Sunday School, Bible School, and took part in the many events of the Bethany Church.
