Obituary from Waterloo Courier, July 8 1947:
Arlington- Funeral services were here Monday for Edwin A. Thomas; burial in Taylorsville cemetery; son of Esther Ann Hewitt and Edgar Adelbert Thomas, he was born near Scottsville, Kan., Feb 1 1882; when eight years of age he moved with his family to four and one half miles northeast of Maynard and grew to manhood in this vicinity; married Gracia Belle Vogelsang Sept. 7, 1907, at Fayette; leaves wife and three children, Ethan, Macks Creek Mo.; Mrs Esther Hackett, Rolla, Mo.; and Bernard, Oelwein; preceded in death by five children, one brother and four sisters.

Edwin A. Thomas Buried Monday Near Arlington
Arlington--Funeral service was held Monday afternoon, July 7, in the Christian church for Edwin A. Thomas. Clergymen officiating were Rev. E. P. Hignett and W. H. Seeley. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Burton North, accompanied by Mary Verna Gleim.
Pallbearers were Ray Bissel, Art Bowman, Fred Klingman, Dean Westcott, Ralph Stricher and Bert Stevenson. Burial was n Taylorsville cemetery.

Edwin Asher Thomas, son of Esther Ann Hewitt and Edgar Adelbert Thomas, was born near Scottsville, Kan., Feb 1 1882. At the age of six weeks, he traveled by train back to Cattaragus county, N.Y., from whence his parents had moved about nine years previous. At the age of eight years, he came west again by covered wagon, bound for Hull, Neb. but he and his family were stopped west of Des Moines by word not to proceed further, as there had been hail out there.
The family then moved four and a half miles northeast of Maynard, on Nov. 11 1890. Mr Thomas grew to manhood in this vicinity.
He was married to Gracia Belle Vogelsang on Sept 7, 1907, in the Methodist parsonage at Fayette, by Rev. Sanderson. To this union were born eight children, three of whom died at birth, and two sons, Erwin Henry and Frank Asher, on May 19 1935. He was also preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
Mr Thomas is survived by his wife and three children, Ethan, Macks Creek, Mo; Mrs Esther Hackett, Rolla Mo., and Bernard, Oelwein.
