Body of Wm. Kopf{sic} found.
Union Gazette.—There has been much anxiety over the mysterious diappearance of Wm. Hopf whose home was with his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Brause, near Brainard. He was a man of 66, and said to be of a “touchy” disposition which might account for his absence. He has been missing since Christmas time. The neighborhood organized yesterday into searching parties and scoured the woods and ravines in the vicinity of Brainard, finally discovering the body in a cave about twenty rods from Hopf’s old house. It had lain their all these weeks, and was frozen stiff.
An inquest was held yesterday evening before Dr. Darnall as acting coroner, with D. L. Dorland, Will Sheik and Wm. Bartlett as a jury. The verdict was to the effect that Wm. Hopf came to his death from natural causes. And thus is ended what, for a day or two, promised to be a great sensation.

Transcriber’s Note: The last name is spelled two different ways. Fayette County obituaries show Hopf was the maiden name of Mrs. Geo. Brause.
Find a Grave shows he is buried in South Windsor Cemetery in Donnan, IA and was born April 30, 1833 and died Dec. 26, 1899.
