Burned to Death at Fayette.
One of the most horrible accidents in the history of Fayette occurred this Thursday morning at slightly after seven o’clock, F. A. Young attempted either to start his fire or liven up the fire which had held over night in the stove in his harness shop at the rear of the hardware. He said he had often done it before but this time the gas formed in the stove and ran back into the can causing it to explode throwing the burning gasoline all over him.
Enveloped in flame he ran into the street toward the Humphry grocery store calling to Fred Cain to help him. Fred told him to lie down until he could get a coat. As quick as possible Fred wrapped him in a rubber coat and held it around Young while he hurried to the back of the store. Other help came and with a blanket finally extinguished the fire. Peter Graf arrived a little later with a horse blanket. Young was placed on a cot and taken to the hotel. The flesh in places was burned to a crisp and dropped off. He retained consciousness until early noon but death did not come until between two and three. —Fayette Reporter.
