Susanna McGreevey Gordon
Mrs. Susanna Gordon passed away March 6th, 1952 at Des Moines, Iowa. She had been in failing health for the past few years. She was the third child of Thomas and Margaret McGreevey and was born in County Down, Ireland, July 10, 1863. At the age of four years she came to Clermont with her parents.
She was married to James A. Gordon, March 17, 1889. To this union two sons were born, Dr. Leo F. of Omaha, Nebraska and Hilliary L. of Des Moines. Other survivors are a sister Ellen McGreevey of Clermont; one grandchild, Jean M. Mann of Minneapolis, daughter of Hilliary L. Gordon and two great grandchildren, one being born two days before her death. Her other grandchild, James Gordon, son of Dr. Leo F. Gordon, passed away in 1936. She is survived by two nieces Elizabeth Priest of Bernard, and Susanna Larson of Clermont, and a nephew, Max Evans of Clermont and one grand niece and one grand nephew. A brother-in-law, Anson Priest of Clermont. She is preceeded in death by six brothers and sisters, Margaret, Dan, Pat and Thomas McGreevery, Mary Evans and Catherine Priest.
For many years she lived at Postville, where her sons were born. She also lived at Preston, where her husband passed away in September 1918. For the past several years she has made her home with her sons. Her life was centered around her family, home and church. She was especially kind and thoughtful of her friends who were ill or shut in and made many calls to bring them comfort and cheer.
Funeral services were held at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Clermont, March 11, and burial in St. Peter's cemetery. At 9:30 a.m. a solemn high mass was said with Rev. T. B. O'Toole of Bernard, Celebrant, Rev. E. L. Cooney of West Union, Deacon and Rev. Robert Cooney of Clermont, Sub-deacon. Rev. Robert Cooney delivered the sermon.
Out of town relatives and friends in attendance were Dr. and Mrs. Leo Gordon, Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Gordon, Des Moines, Miss Elizabeth Priest, Bernard, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Kilburg, Preston, George Malone, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Mary McBride, Marion.
