Second Waucoma Boy Makes Supreme Sacrifice—Died of Wounds Received Oct. 19Waucoma, Nov 23.-- Waucoma was saddened again Thursday when a message was received from Mrs. George Slagel conveying the news of the death of Lester L. Slagel, from wounds received in action, Oct 19. Deceased was eldest son of George Slagel residing in Mitchell, S.D., and was born in Waucoma Dec. 12, 1895. Since the death of his mother, he made his home with his grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Thompson of this place. He was reared in a conscientious and Christian manner. He attended Waucoma schools and was a favorite among his school comrades. Later he was engaged in clerical work in Minneapolis. He was inducted into U.S. service May 10, going over seas in August, and was sergeant in Co. D, 102 Infantry. He leaves, his father, two brothers -- Verne, now ill at the S.A.T.C., at S.U.I.; Merle and a half sister, his aged grandmother and many sorrowing relatives, who have the heart felt sympathy of the entire community.
