SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR '69 NORTH HIGH GRADUATEFuneral services for Steven J. Crider, 61, of Eldorado were held Saturday, Nov. 3, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado.
Burial was in West Union Cemetery, West Union.
Burnham-Wood & S.K. Rogers Funeral Home, West Union, was in charge of arrangements.
Steven's death occurred Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home in Eldorado following a short illness.
Steven James "Critter" Crider was born to James and Arlene (Ruroden) Crider at Community Memorial Hospital in Postville April 22, 1951.
He was a lifelong member of St Peter Lutheran Church in Eldorado, where he was baptized on May 13, 1951, and confirmed on April 11,1965.
Steven graduated from North High School in West Union in 1969.
As a young man Critter worked for local farmers and for Everett Vagts' Feed Mill. He then began his career with Northwestern Bell/Qwest for 37 years, running telephone lines and splicing fiber optic cables.
He was an outdoorsman who loved to fish and hunt He looked forward to the yearly tradition of shotgun season and spending time at deer camp. In his free time, Steven enjoyed planting trees, gardening and riding his golf cart around Eldorado to visit family and friends. He also enjoyed collecting antiques that he would pick up from auctions and sales.
A member of Whitetails Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, and the NRA, Steven was also a supporter and committee member of the local Ducks Unlimited Chapter.
He was preceded in death by his father, James Crider, grandparents, aunts and an uncle.
Survivors include his mother, Arlene Crider of Eldorado; four children, Shannon (Conrad) Langreck of West Union, Stephanie (Gerald) Bastyr of Lascassas, Tenn., Steven James (Genista) Crider Jr. of Plymouth, Minn., and Ashley (Josh) Varner of Holts Summit, Mo; six grandchildren, Amanda (Noah) Heinrich, Brady Langreck, Tyler Bastyr, Caleb Bastyr, Justina Varner, and Claire Varner; and a great-grandchild, Lee Heinrich.
Also surviving are a sister, Cynthia (Steve) Metzger of Clermont; two nieces; and other relatives.
