Marie Catherine Corsepius, 1900-1930

Marie Catherine Strudthoff Corsepius tragically died 26 February 1930, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, where she had been taken after neighbors had heard her screams for help. She had been cleaning her stove when the cleaning solvent she was using had erupted in flames consuming Marie's face and hands. She died from the severity of her injuries.

Marie born 01 December 1900 near Donnan Junction, was confirmed in 1914 in the English Lutheran faith by Rev. Meyne and was raised in the West Union area attending schools there, graduating from West Union High. Prior to her marriage Marie had taught school two years at Mitchell, S.D., and in the rural schools near Donnan.

She married Everett Henry Corsepius on 07 March 1924. Three sons were born to their union. Their youngest child was under four weeks old at the time of her accident and untimely death.

Marie was the daughter of Henry J. and Katharine "Katie" Maria Koster/Kaster Strudthoff. Besides her grieving parents, husband and three young sons, Walter, Dick and Conrad; are two brothers Leo (Olga Grafenberg), Otto (Ella Riley) and foster sister Elsa Scheelhaase.

Marie was buried February 23, 1930, at the West Union Cemetery, West Union, Fayette County, Iowa.
