Final rites for Miss Elsie Cornely, 69, who Died suddenly of a heart attack last Wednesday in her home at Cedar Rapids, were conducted from Burnham Funeral home at 2:30 p.m. Saturday with Rev. Paul Potter of First Methodist church officiating. Burial was in West Union cemetery. Mrs. J.S. Crowe and Mrs. Lloyd Craft furnished music.
Elsie Comely, youngest daughter of John and Catherine Cornely, was born April 22, 1882, on a farm in Dover township, Fayette county She was educated in the public schools of Fayette county,and later received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Upper Iowa university at Fayette During her adult life. Miss Comely was engaged in the teaching profession in which she served faithfully for many years. After teaching in a number of rural schools and in the public schools at Clermont, Randalia, Hawkeye, West Union and Waterloo she moved in 1919 to Cedar Rapids, where she served at Harrison and Polk schools and at Benjamin Franklin school for 28 year preceding her death.
Miss Comely was a member of the Methodist church and of various clubs and educational associations, and was a charter member and director of the Cedar Rapids Teachers Credit Union.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Emma Heiserman, West Union; Mrs. Bertha Dorland, San Marino Calif , Mrs. Mamie Olsen, Platte, S. Dak., a niece, Mrs. Catherine Eggleston, San Marino, Calif., and three nephews, J.E. Heiserman, Anamosa; E.G. HeiserMan, Los Angeles, Calif, and L.W. Heiserman, Weirton, W.Va.
