A Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Elgin, Iowa with Rev. Lee Boleyn officiating for Ruth Marie Jacob, who died Friday, May 11, 2012 at the Garden View Assisted Living Center in Monona, Iowa. Committal service was held at the Elgin City Cemetery in Elgin, Iowa.

Ruth Marie Jacob, age 89, of Elgin was born October 27, 1922 in Middletown, Iowa to Walter and Lydia (Reusser) Siems. She graduated from Danville Junior College. She worked as a bookkeeper for Siems Farm Equipment in Burlington, Iowa. On March 16, 1946 she married Leon Leroy Jacob in Burlington, Iowa. They were blessed as parents to have six children. Leon and Ruth farmed together on the family farm near Elgin, Iowa where they raised hogs, beef, dairy cows, and chickens. Leon and Ruth retired after building a new home in Elgin and created more gardens as they lived in town. Leon and Ruth moved to Garden View Assisted Living in Monona in October 2010. Leon passed away on March 25, 2011.

Ruth was a person of faith who found a faith community at the First Baptist Church of Elgin. Ruth was a State of Iowa Federated Garden Club judge and found wonderful friends of the Elgin Historical Society. She was frequently consulted about a favorite subject, genealogy. Her curiosity and intellectual interests provided a launch pad to explore, collect, and catalog stamps, coins, rocks, floral design, butterflies, local barns, Iowa county courthouses, local brick factories, plants, and birds.

Ruth is survived by her five children: Mary Ann (Ronald) Stevens of Greeley, Colorado, Margaret (Roger) Ruetten of Stillwater, Minnesota, Robert Jacob of Postville, Iowa, Janet Jacob also of Postville, and Susanne (Michael) Westphal of Colorado Springs, Colorado; five grandchildren Julie Stevens, Katrice (Mark) Ziefle, Michael (Kristin) Ruetten, Madison Westphal and Abigail Westphal; two great-grandchildren Sonya and Wesley Ruetten; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon and one son Richard Jacob; her parents, and one brother John R.Siem.
