Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funerals services were held on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa for Gladys E. McKenna, age 95, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, formerly of Waterloo, who died Friday, July 29, 2016 at the Western Home Communities Martin Center. Full military rites were conducted by Evansdale AMVETS Post 31, Waterloo AMVETS Post 19, and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard.
Gladys was born March 6, 1921 in West Union, Iowa to Arthur and Clara (Annett) Craft. She married John "Jack" McKenna on October 27, 1948 in Marshfield, Wisconsin. He died January 29, 2000. Gladys was a teacher in a one room school house until World War II when she enlisted and served in the W.A.V.E.S. Following the war she was a homemaker and mother. She was very involved in church activities and Al-Anon activities. Gladys especially loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren.
Gladys is survived by her two sons, Kenneth (Paula) McKenna of Oxford, Iowa and Shawn (Marcia) McKenna of Evansdale, Iowa, and a daughter, Patricia (Dean) Norton of Waterloo, Iowa. She has seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Merle Craft and Gerald Craft.
