Funeral services for Mrs. William Y. Kerr were held in the Illyria Community Church, Elgin, on Friday, January 2, at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Dick Harberts officiating. Interment was in the Illyria Cemetery, Elgin.
Anna Mae Gruver, daughter of William and Mary Hunsberger Gruver, was born in Elgin on January 18, 1892. Her childhood was spent in the Elgin community where she received her education in the Elgin public schools. She was baptized and a member of the Illyria Community Church, Elgin.
On January 15, 1910, she was united in marriage to William Y. Kerr. To this union, eight children were born: Leone, June, Ferne, Thomas, Robert, James, Clifton and Nona. They spent their entire married life in the Elgin vicinity. They had the pleasure of celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary in 1975.
Mr. and Mrs. William Kerr spent their last few years in the Good Samaritan Center in Postville. Mrs. Kerr had been in failing health for some time and passed away at the Community Memorial Hospital, Postville, Iowa, December 30, 1975. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, three sisters, one son, Thomas, two grandsons, and one daughter-in-law.
Mrs. Kerr is survived by her husband, William of Postvile, and seven children: Mrs. Ralph (Leone) Shaffer of Elgin; Mrs. Reuben (June) Light of Waterloo; Mrs. Cleve (Ferne) Bennett, Elgin; Robert Kerr, Clermont; James Kerr, Waterloo; Clifton Kerr, Nashville, Tennessee and Mrs. Virgil (Nona) Torson of Elgin. There are also twenty-four grandchildren and forty-eight great grandchildren and many other relatives.
