Rites Held For M. Schweinefus
Funeral services for Myrtle Schweinefus were held Wednesday, May 4, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. The Rev. Kim Peterson officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia.
Myrtle Schweinefus, daughter of John and Amelia (Tinderholt) Oakland, was born September 16, 1901 in Fayette County, Iowa. She passed away Sunday, May 1, 1983 at the Good Samaritan Center in West Union.
She was baptized and confirmed at the Stavanger Lutheran Church. She attended the rural schools of Fayette County.
On November 26, 1919 she was married to Henry Schweinefus at the Stavanger Lutheran Church near Ossian. Three children were born to this union. They farmed near Castalia for 15 years, moving to Clermont in 1936.
Myrtle clerked for several stores in Clermont and for 20 years she was a telephone switchboard operator.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry, who died May 22, 1980, a daughter, Joan, in infancy, 3 brothers, Martin, Nelfred and Clarence, and a granddaughter, Anna Marie Brehm.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. William (Marcella) Brehm of Rushville, IL, and Mrs. Clarence (C. Lois) Jellings of Clinton, IA, two foster children, Marvin Larson of West Union and Mrs. June Hofer of Napa, CA, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a brother, Harry Oakland, who lives at the Ossian Senior Hospice.
