Balz Kamm Jr.

WEST UNION - Balz Kamm Jr., 80, of West Union, died Friday, Aug. 4, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in West Union, son of Balz and Amelia Etter Kamm. He married Shirley Grafenberg Oct. 26, 1946. She preceded him in death April 1, 2005.

He graduated from West Union High School in 1943 and served in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Kamm was owner of Reliable Agency from 1949 until selling the business in December 1980. He also helped develop the N.E. Iowa Realty appraisal business and had served on the West Union City Council.

Survived by: two sons, Barry (Kriss) of West Union and David (Becky) of Decorah; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert of Stillwater, Okla.; and two sisters, Barbara Temple of West Union and Edna Mac Goines of Carmel, Calif.

Preceded in death by: two children; and a brother.

Services: 2 p.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church, West Union, with burial in the West Union Cemetery. Public visitation from noon until service time Monday at the church. Burnham-Wood Funeral Home, West Union, is in charge of arrangements.
