Elmer Sorenson dies Feb. 16

Elmer S. Sorenson, son of Gundland and Anna Nesvik Sorenson, was born May 12, 1905, near Ossian. He was baptized at Stavanger Lutheran Church, rural Ossian, June 11, 1905, and confirmed Nov. 9, 1919.

He attended rural school in Military Township, Winneshiek County. On April 3, 1937, he was united in marriage to Virginia Hoover in West Union. They farmed the home place until retiring in 1980. Following his retirement, Elmer did custom fencing. He was a member of Stavanger Lutheran church until 1968, when they transferred membership to Calmar Lutheran Church.

For a short time he was a resident of Barthell Eastern Star Home where his death occurred Friday, Feb. 16, at 84 years of age.

Services were held Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Calmar Lutheran Church, with burial in the church cemetery. French Funeral Home, Calmar, had charge of arrangements. Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Glen.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia, rural Ossian; two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Ada) George, Escondido, Calif., and Mrs. Harry (Evelyn) Van Vlite, rural Mabel, Minn.; two nieces and three nephews.
