The Elgin Echo,
Elgin, Fayette Co., Iowa
Thursday, 08 Apr 1909A message was received by Will Cook,- who resides east of town, which stated that his wife had passed away at the State Hospital at Independence that morning. He went to that city Tuesday and returned with the remains Wednesday. The body was taken to the home of Chris Meyers. Funeral services will be held at the German Baptist church this (Thursday) afternoon at 1:00 o'clock and burial will be made in the Elgin cemetery. It is believed the lady's demise was sudden for on Wednesday of last week she wrote a letter to her husband in which no mention of a sickness was made. She was well at that time. Mrs. Cook's maiden name was Lydia Baumgartner and besides a husband and three children she leaves many relatives and friends.
