Prominent Woman Stricken Sunday Morning, Passes Same AfternoonBORN IN EDEN, 1871
Funeral Today --WAUCOMA -- Mrs. W. H. Stone, 68, was taken ill Sunday morning, July 2, stricken with paralysis, and died that day at 4:10 p. m. She had not been in the best of health for some time.
The funeral services will be held today, Wednesday, July 5, the Rev. J.P. Clyde conducting a 2 o'clock service at the home. Burial will be in Waucoma cemetery.
As Norma Burleson, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Norris Burleson. Mrs. Stone was born on a farm south of Waucoma in Eden township on April 3, 1871. She received her education in the public school here and was a teacher for several years. She was united in marriage to Will H. Searles in 1893 at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Sutherland, Waucoma, and went to reside at Perry, where Mr. Searles was a railroad conductor. She became the mother of two children, Sidney Searles, Des Moines, and Mildred, who died June 6, 1933. Mr. Searles died May 1, 1906.
The family remained in Perry until Dec. 6, 1916, when she and W. H. Stone were married at the home of her sister, Mrs. Jack Losey, at Perry. They returned to Waucoma to reside. She was a member of the Congregational church, and of the Waucoma Reading circle.
Surviving are her son Sidney; her husband, age 87, and his children — Oliver Stone, Jacksonville, Fla,. Leo C. Stone, Waucoma, and Mrs. W. H. Antes, West Union; also her sister, Mrs. Losey, Perry; one nephew, Ben Bowers, Pittsfield, Mass.; and one niece, Mary Louise Losey, Perry, Iowa.
