FAYETTE.
James E. Robertson, whose death the 22 of May was reported in our letter last week, was one of the early pioneers of Fayette County arriving on the 13 day of Sept. 1849. In 1850 he and his family made their home on the present family estate where he and his wife have continuously resided for 54 years. Ten children were raised to maturity in this home before death entered to break the charm of a large family circle. Seven are still living. Mr. Robertson was one of the founders of Methodism in Fayette county and prominent financially and otherwise in the building of the University and a member of the Board of Trustees from 1855 to 1895 when he resigned his place to younger men.

The funeral was held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon the 24 of May, Dr. J.W. Bissell preaching the sermon. Mr. Robertson was born in Bath county, Kentucky, April 19, 1821; was married to Elizabeth Jane Alexander, who survives him, Feb. 9, 1842 and died at his home in Fayette at the ripe age of 83 years. We witness with heavy hearts the passing away of these fathers and mothers in Israel They have borne heavy burdens and labored unceasingly that we. the children and grandchildren, might enjoy greater privileges and the comforts that ample means and a cultivated community alone can give.
