MRS. MADELENA JACOBS.

Mrs. Jacobs died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Dan Goetz, in Elgin, Iowa, Feb. 19, aged 76 years. Funeral services were held at the German Baptist church Saturday, Feb. 22, services were conducted by Rev. Hack and attended by a large number of the relatives and friends of the deceased.

Madelena (Goetz) Jacobs was born in Alsace, then France, in 1820, was married to Michael Jacobs, who died in 1873, in 1842. She with her husband emigrated to America in 1843, settling in Illinois near Chicago. In 1858 they again moved, coming to Elgin, Iowa, where they both lived at the time of their death. Mrs. Jacobs leaves four daughters to mourn her death, Mrs. Dan Goetz, of Elgin; Mrs. Ole Matthys, of Elgin; Mrs. Henry Welhe, of Postville; and Mrs. Gottlieb Bauder, of Rock Valley, Iowa, all of whom were in attendance at the funeral.

Mrs. Jacobs was a woman who had many warm friends for the fact that she was a true woman, kind to her family and neighbors, a good wife and mother and the most steadfast and sacrificing of friends. All Elgin mourns the death of the estimable lady, who was among the towns oldest, most beloved and respected citizens. The memory of her will always be pleasant to those who knew her.

CARD OF THANKS.
Mr. and Mrs. Dan Goetz wish to return thanks to their many friends who so kindly assisted them and whose sympathy was so comforting during the late illness and death of their mother.
