OBITUARY GEORGE GRUVER

George S. Gruver, son of Wm. And Susanna Gruver was born in Clermont, Iowa, October 16th, 1862, and died at his home near Brainard. March 24th, 1920, aged 57 years, 5 months and 8 days.

When a mere boy the family moved to West Union, where he grew to manhood and where he learned the harness makers trade from his father, who conducted a harness shop in that town. He followed this trade until failing health compelled him to seek outdoor work.

April 2nd, 1888, he was united in marriage with Mary Hofer of Elgin, and to this union were born four children, Max William, who died January 31, 1919; Mrs. A.R. Lubke, Reuben and Kathryn at home. In September, 104, they moved to their present home near Brainard.

For years he was a constant sufferer and while he seldom had to take to his bed, there were very few days that he felt well. Shortly after 5 o’clock on March 24th, he was suddenly taken violently ill and passed away about 8:30 that evening having suffered an attack of apoplexy.

He leaves besides his sorrowing family, one sister and two brothers, Etta and Fred of West Union and W. T. Gruver of Port Wing, Wisconsin, besides many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Wedel were held from the Baptist church Saturday afternoon and internment was made in the Elgin cemetery.
