Maurice Chevalier

Maurice A. Chevalier, 67, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 1999, at his home, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at 1 p.m., at the Teahen Funeral Home, 3100 F Ave. NW, in Cedar Rapids, with the Rev. Julia Poulsen officiating.

Burial will be at Strawberry Point with military services at 3 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Wednesday from noon until 1 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Maurice was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Arlington, the son of Freeman and Hattie (Goranson) Chevalier. He was married to Jeannine Vine Nov. 24, 1975, in Miami, Okla.

He retired in 1994 from the packaging department of National Oats-Ralston Foods Co., where he had been employed for 20 years.

Maurice was a Korean veteran of the United States Marine Corps and a member of the American Legion Hanford Post No. 5.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannine; 4 daughters, Debra Syfert of Oklahoma City, Okla., Kathryn Chevalier of Midwest City, Okla., Deborah Prideaux of Marion and Judy Cassady of Alton, Ill.; 3 sons, Steven of Omaha, Neb., Michael of Cedar Rapids, and Kenneth Vine of Hiawatha; 2 brothers, Marvin of Iowa City and Donald of Strawberry Point; and a sister, Darlene Brady of Strawberry Point.

Also surviving are 2 sons-in-law, Gene and Mark; 2 daughters-in-law, Jill and Becci; 2 sisters-in-law, Faye and Evelyne; and 10 grandchildren.

Maurice was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mildred Thurn; and 2 brothers, Lewis and Darrell.
