On March [illegible, possibly 17th or 27th] 1875, he was united in marriage with Miss Susan Capper of Elgin, and in just five months on Aug. 2, 1875, Mrs. Patterson died, having been killed in a runaway on what is now known as the Loetscher hill near Elgin.
On June 9, 1878, he was married to Maria S. Beamer, one child was born to this union, Ezra David. This companion died in 1895.
Mr. Patterson again married in 1900 to Mrs. Emma Goodnow of Waucoma. Mrs. Patterson died March 16, 1916.
Mr. Patterson followed the occupation of farming, having owned one of the finest farms in Clayton county in his younger days, later he disposed of this and bought a large farm near West Union where he resided until about 25 years ago when he retired and moved to West Union. After the death of Mrs. Patterson he made his home with his stepson, H.A. Goodnow. He had spent several months in the west where he was taken sick and died. Mr. Patterson was a very quiet home loving man, honored and respected by all who knew him.
The funeral was held in the Methodist church at West Union, of which he was a member, on Sunday afternoon, March 24, at 1:30 o'clock. Interment was made in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
