Elgin Echo, Thursday, 2 April 1903.

Agnes Sloan was born in Ayrshire, Scotland, Aug. 30, 1830.

January 13, 1848 she was united in marriage to William Lewis of Lanarkshire and in May of 1848 the couple sailed for America. They landed at New York and from there went to Elgin, Kane county, Ill. In 1857 Mr. and Mrs. Lewis came to Iowa and settled on a farm in Highland. Twelve children were born to them, nine of whom are living: Thomas Lewis of Elgin; William C. of Guttenberg; James, John and Arthur residing at Canton, South Dakota; David of Inwood, Iowa; Alfred of Palmer; Mrs. Helen Keenan of Monticello, Minn.; and Mrs. Margaret Nichols of Frederick, Wis.

Since the death of her husband Mrs. Lewis has made her home at Volga, City. Where she is widely known for her aid in sickness and trouble.

Oct. 20, 1902, she came to Elgin and remained at the home of her son Thos. Lewis, until her death, March 19, 1903. The body was taken to Volga City where the funeral was held and interment made in the cemetery of that place.

NOTE: Highland is a township in Clayton Co., Iowa. Agnes is buried in Volga City Cemetery aka Hillcrest cemetery in Clayton Co.
