Elgin Echo, Thur., 29 Jan. 1903. (Condensed from a longer more detailed accident report.).

Saturday afternoon Ole Nelson and Nels Levi Oleson were in town and as was their habit imbibed freely. Oleson had a team of horses and light spring wagon and Nelson agreed to a ride with him east of town to the John Erickson place where Nelson was staying. This is the last known of them for about an hour.

About 11 o'clock Gunbar Ugland, who lives east of town, started homeward on foot. On reaching a point in the road known as "the narrows" he was startled to hear the sound of horses hoofs striking against a hard surface. Upon investigation he found an overturned wagon with men trapped beneath. He ran to the Halbor Gilbertson home to get assistance and then into town for medical and further assistance.

Upon the arrival of the Doctor and further assistance the trapped men were freed and the doctor could see at a glance that one man was already dead. The dead man was identified as Ole Nelson whose left temple had been badly bruised and together with a severe wound behind the left ear had caused almost instant death. Mr. Oleson had suffered bruises but was able to return to his home Sunday morning.

Not much is known of the home life of Ole Nelson, outside of the fact that he had twice been married and was the father of six children, two daughters and a son by his first wife, one of these residing near Clermont and the other at St. Paul. The whereabouts of the son is unknown. The three daughters by his second wife, Emma, Julia and Clara all have homes in this neighborhood.

The body of the deceased was called for by the relatives and removed to the Clermont church, where interment was made in the cemetery at that place.
