Marian 'Jean' Dougherty

Marian Jean Dougherty Fassbinder, 86, Postville, Iowa, died Thursday, July 22, 2010, at her home following a brief illness. Jean was born on August 1, 1923, in Lorimer, Iowa, to Peter V. and Leone M. (Bahnsen) Dougherty. She attended school in Webster City, Iowa, St. John Catholic School in Clarion, Iowa and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Elkader, Iowa. Jean then graduated from Elkader Junior College in Elkader, Iowa.

Jean worked for SCS and Farm Bureau from 1943-1945. Jean was united in marriage to Gerald J. Fassbinder on July 20, 1945, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elkader, Iowa. Three sons were born to this union. She worked along with Gerald on the farm until they retired. Jean was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter Rosary Society, American Legion Auxiliary and the Home Garden Club. She loved reading, gardening, music and spending time with her loving family. She will be greatly missed by the many family and friends that knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Gerald Fassbinder, Postville; three sons, Robert (Kathryn) Fassbinder, Elgin, David Fassbinder, Monona, William Fassbinder, Postville; seven grandchildren, Anne (Brent) Jenks, Benjamin (Katie) Fassbinder, Carol (Brian) Orth, Mathew Fassbinder, Eva (Brian) Brummel, Joel (Rachel) Fassbinder, Emily Fassbinder; seven great-grandchildren; four sisters, Darlene (Jack) Dittmer, Delores Mangan, Jeanette (Tom) Prideaux, Janice Hanson; two sisters-in-law, Jean Dougherty, Rose Dougherty and a host of other relatives.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Leone Dougherty; daughter-in-law, Barbara Fassbinder; two sisters and their husbands, Marilyn (Lee) Noeller and Patricia (Bill) Minihan; three brothers, Bernard, James and Gerald Dougherty and brothers-in-law, Bob Mangan and Adolph Hanson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010, at 10:30 am at St. Peter Catholic Church, Clermont, Iowa. The Rev. Dale Rausch will be the celebrant.

Internment will take place at St. Peter Catholic Cemetery, Clermont, Iowa, at a later time.
