Elgin Echo, Thursday, 3 February 1898.

Frank Bishop, a resident of Fayette County since 1849, died at his home in Union Township the latter part of the week. When Mr. Bishop came here he settled on a farm about 3 miles southeast of town where he resided until perhaps a half-dozen years since, when he sold out and moved farther east and north, but still remaining in Union Township. Before removing to his new location he was a familiar figure in West Union, his ponderous size – he weighed 350 pounds at his best – and his rough, hearty manner making him a marked figure wherever he went. He would have been 80 years of age had he lived until March 30.

The Funeral Was Held Tuesday from Pleasant Grove church (in the Harper district) Rev. Ross, of Oelwein, officiating.

Deceased leaves a wife and 10 children.
