Gilbert Hanson

Funeral services for Gilbert Hanson were held Thursday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville. The Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangement. Interment was in the East Clermont Cemetery, rural Postville.

Gilbert Haaken Hanson, son of Andrew and Gunda (Erickson) Hanson, was born November 12, 1890 in Clermont, IA. He died July 8, 1986 at the home of his daughter in Postville.

He was baptized and confirmed at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. He served in the U. S. Army during WW I.

February 26, 1919 he married Magda A. Larson. They had 5 children. He was a carpenter in and around the Clermont area all of his life.

Preceding him in death was his wife, Magda, who died in 1927, a son Louis Dean, his parents, four brothers, Edon, Oscar, Gustav and Louie, four sisters, Josie, Emma, Inga and Alma, one granddaughter, Mavis Ostlie and one great grandson, Michael Deering.

Surviving are one son, Dale of Postville, three daughters, Mildred (Mrs. Verni Brandt) of Clermont, Bernice (Mrs. Charles Thomas) of Postville and Doris (Mrs. Eugene Malecki) of Arlington Heights, IL, 10 grandchildren, Donald, Richard, Jamie and Scott Hanson, James Brandt, Carol Deering, Scott, Tonya and Todd Malecki and Leo Ostlie, Jr., 7 great grandchildren, Peggy and Terry Brandt, Charles F., Craig, Stacy and Lisa Deering and Lori (Deering) Podzimek, 1 great great granddaughter, Lindsey Podzimek and a sister, Martha Davis of Waterloo.

He was a member of the American Legion Sheehan Olson Post No. 375 of Clermont.

Casket bearers were James Brandt, Donald Hanson, Charles I. Deering, Craig Deering, Roger Bechtel and Kenneth Arrington.
