Services For Edward Barnes
Funeral services were conducted for Edward Barnes of Clermont on Monday, October 16, at 2 p.m. at the Schutte Funeral Home in Postville, the Rev. John Kronlokken, in charge.
Edward Barnes, a son of John A. and Mary Barnes, born at Volney, Iowa on December 29, 1893, passed away Thursday, October 12, 1961, at Cedar Rapids, following a period of illness and hospitalization at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Iowa City.
Mr. Barnes spent his youth at Volney, until he went to serve his country in World War I. His duties included service overseas in France.
In 1923 he married Florence Harris from Postville. The couple made their home in Postville until 1929, at which time they moved to Clermont. Here they have lived most of their lives, except for a few years' residence at Clinton.
Mr. Barnes later became a member of West Clermont Lutheran Church upon instruction and confirmation.
To the family were born 5 children: 3 sons, of whom 2 died, one in infancy and Edward, Jr. at an early age; and 2 daughters. Mrs. Barnes passed away only a few months ago on July 29 of this year.
There remain to mourn his passing 3 children: a son, John Barnes of Clinton; and 2 daughters: Iva Jean (Frank) King of Center Point and Gladys (Charles) Gilcrest of Walker. Also 9 grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
