Last Rites Held For Oscar Baker

Funeral services for Oscar Baker, 74, were held Monday, Feb. 17, at East Clermont Lutheran church with Rev. Clarence Johnson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mr. Baker died Thursday, Feb. 13, after several months of failing health, at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 1 day.

He was born Sept. 12, 1894, the son of Ole and Ida (Staake) Baker in Marion township, Clayton County. He was baptized in the East Clermont church and was confirmed there in 1909. He received his education in the Marion township school.

He was married to Luella Johnson of Elgin, Dec. 20, 1918. To this union was born one son, Leslie.

He was active in farming until 1940 when he moved to Monona, where he worked as a carpenter and with the railroad.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one brother, Henry.

In addition to his wife, Luella, he is survived by one son, Leslie of State Center; one brother, Joe of Clermont; 2 sisters, Mrs. Ben (Amanda) Erickson and Mrs. Fred (Olga) Pfister, both of Postville; one granddaughter, Mrs. Michael (Judith) Huinker; and one great granddaughter, Michelle and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were R. L. Evans, Herbert Lenth, Telmer Olson, Alvin Johnson, Harvey Debes, Floyd Gruel, Irving Schierholz and Harry Luster.
