OBITUARY—MRS. HERB CLARK OF MAYANARD.
The town of Maynard was shocked Monday morning to hear of the passing of Mrs. Herb Clark, for although she has been sick for several weeks, her condition seemed to be improved and the end came as a shock to her family as well as friends.Lavina Catherine Brown was born in Jackson Co., Sept. 9, 1865, and passed away at her home in Maynard April 26th, 1931, at the age of 65 years. She was the youngest daughter of Robert and Dianna (Hillier) Brown. She came with her parents to Maynard in 1881 and there in her young girlhood formed the happy acquaintance which resulted in her marriage in 1883, to her now bereaved husband, Herbert Clark, and for nearly 48 years they have traveled the sunny road of companionship together. To this union were born two sons , one dying at birth and Charles who has ever been a real comfort to his mother, and who with the desolate husband and one dearly beloved granddaughter and her daughter-in-law, whom she has often said she loved as an own daughter, are left to mourn the passing of an exceptionally devoted wife, mother and grandmother. For some time Mrs. Clark has been in failing health, but owing to the almost helpless condition of her husband, she has tried to fight a good fight. All that medical skill, trained nursing and care of loving hands was done, but to no avail and while she apparently improved the past few days, the end came suddenly and unexpectedly. The angel of death laid a hand quietly upon her head and a gentle voice whispered “Come home,” and whit one deep breath she answered and crossed the great divide. Besides those of her immediate family she leaves one sister, Mrs. Maggie Adams of Arlington, two sisters and three brothers with her parents having preceded her in death.
Mrs. Clark was a member of the Methodist church and Order of the Eastern Star and in all branches of church activities she was ever a faithful worker, as long as health would permit. She was ever a devoted member to her beloved chapter, holding a number of the offices during her membership. To do her share in all that she undertook was her aim in public work and none ever found her lacking. Blessed with a kind heart, a gracious manner and with a face of unusual beauty, she made many friends who have ever been loyal to her.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon conducted by Rev. Virgil Welch, assisted by Rev. Caldwell. And Mr. Jenison, Ed Stewart and Miss Mabel Stiles sang three selections one of which was a favorite of the deceased, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Lois Smith. The beautiful burial service of the Order of Eastern Stars was read, after which the body was tenderly laid to rest in Long Grove cemetery. The pall bearers were, honorary, Mesdames John Meyer, John Bing, Fred Hutchings, Harve Seely, A. E. Conrad, Jim Smith; active: Messrs. John Meyer, Fred Hitchings and Frank Schmitt.
